Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Hand Mixer or Stand Mixer
  • Rolling Pin
  • Heart-shaped Cookie Cutters
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • Pastry Brush

Ingredients

Danish Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed

Cream Cheese Filling

  • 250 g cream cheese room temperature
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Topping & Decoration

  • 1 egg for egg wash
  • 1/2 cup strawberries chopped
  • white sugar for sprinkling
  • powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Thaw puff pastry and bring cream cheese to room temperature.
  • In a bowl, beat together cream cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth. Transfer to a Ziploc bag or piping bag.
  • Roll out the puff pastry slightly. Use a large heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out as many hearts as possible.
  • Lightly score the center of each heart with a smaller cutter to create a border — do not cut all the way through.
  • Pipe the cream cheese mixture inside the scored lines. Top with chopped strawberries.
  • Brush edges with egg wash and sprinkle with white sugar for sparkle.
  • Place hearts on the prepared baking sheet. Chill for 10 minutes if possible, then bake for 22–24 minutes or until golden and puffed.
  • Allow to cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

For flavor variations, try adding lemon zest to the filling or swapping strawberries for raspberries, blueberries, or peaches. To avoid soggy pastry, avoid using too much fruit or wet berries.
