  • 1 lb lean ground beef Provides protein and heartiness
  • 1/2 medium onion, diced Adds sweetness and texture
  • 1 lb mushrooms, sliced Brings umami flavor and texture
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Enhances overall flavor
  • 2 Tbsp all-purpose flour Thickens sauce for a creamy consistency
  • 1 cup beef broth Provides depth of flavor
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream Adds richness and creaminess

  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce Enhances flavor complexity
  • 1/2 tsp salt, adjust to taste Balances flavors
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper, adjust to taste Adds warmth and slight spiciness

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once the oil glistens, add the diced onion. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent and tender, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Add the ground beef to the skillet and break it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Cook until no longer pink and juices run clear.
  • Stir in the sliced mushrooms and minced garlic. Cook until the mushrooms soften, about 4-5 minutes.
  • Sprinkle the flour over the mixture and stir thoroughly to coat the ingredients. Cook for another 1-2 minutes.
  • Gradually pour in the beef broth while stirring continuously to incorporate the flour. Allow the mixture to bubble and thicken slightly.
  • Reduce the heat to low and stir in the heavy whipping cream. Simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  • Fold in the sour cream and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until combined and taste for seasoning.
  • Let the stroganoff stand for a few minutes to thicken before serving.

Notes

Serve over egg noodles or rice, alongside crusty bread or a fresh garden salad. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat gently.
