For the dough

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (for structure) plus about 1/4 cup extra for kneading to prevent sticking
  • 1 cup 0% Greek yogurt adds moisture and tenderness
  • 2 tsp baking powder provides leavening

  • 1 each egg, whisked for egg wash

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Whisk these dry ingredients together until evenly mixed.
  • Add 1 cup of Greek yogurt to the flour mixture. Gently fold the ingredients together using a spatula or sturdy spoon until just incorporated.
  • Lightly flour a clean surface and turn the dough out onto it. Sprinkle extra flour on top to prevent sticking, then knead gently for 1-2 minutes until smooth and slightly elastic.
  • Divide the kneaded dough into four equal pieces, roll each into a ball, and poke a hole through the center to form bagel shapes.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Place shaped bagels on the prepared baking sheet. Brush with the whisked egg to create a golden-brown crust.
  • Sprinkle everything but the bagel seasoning on top, pressing down lightly to adhere.
  • Bake the bagels for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown, then allow to cool slightly on a wire rack.

Notes

Ensure accurate measurements of Greek yogurt and flour to maintain the right dough consistency. Knead gently, and allow bagels to cool before slicing to maintain structure.
