Instructions

Cooking

  • Begin by browning the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it into smaller pieces. Stir occasionally until fully browned.
  • Drain excess fat if needed, then add the chopped onion to the skillet. Stir to soften the onions for a few minutes until translucent.
  • Incorporate the minced garlic into the skillet, cooking for about a minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  • Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet, cooking until they release moisture and soften, about five minutes.
  • Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring to blend. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  • In a separate bowl, mix sour cream and flour until smooth, then whisk this into the skillet gradually.
  • Allow the stroganoff to cook for a few more minutes over low simmer, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve the stroganoff hot over cooked egg noodles or rice.

Notes

This dish makes for a hearty family dinner, pairs well with a side salad or steamed vegetables, and tastes even better on the second day. For best results, drain fat after browning the beef and adjust seasoning at the end.
