Preparation

  • Start by placing the chicken breasts into the crock pot. Arranging them evenly ensures consistent cooking.
  • Sprinkle the chili powder, cumin, garlic salt, salt, and pepper evenly on top of the chicken.
  • Add the chopped cilantro over the seasoned chicken.
  • Pour the tomato sauce over the chicken and cilantro mixture.
  • Cover the crock pot and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours.
  • Once the cooking time is complete, shred the chicken directly in the sauce using a fork.
  • Stir the shredded chicken back into the sauce to combine.

Notes

For best results, use fresh cilantro. Shred chicken while hot for easier ripping, and adjust spices to taste. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to four days.
