  • 2 cups orzo pasta (small pasta shape)
  • 1 lb chicken sausage, sliced (adds meatiness)
  • 2 cups fresh broccoli florets (provides crunch and color)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (brings aroma and depth)
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese (adds creaminess and flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for sautéing)
  • Salt and pepper to taste (for seasoning)
  • Water or chicken broth (for cooking orzo)

  • In a large pot, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced chicken sausage and cook for about 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally until browned and heated through. Remove the sausage from the pot and set it aside.
  • In the same pot, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Stir continuously to avoid burning.
  • Add the broccoli florets to the pot and sauté for about 3–4 minutes until they start to soften.
  • Pour in 4 cups of water or chicken broth. Stir to combine and bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to a gentle simmer.
  • Add in the orzo pasta and season with salt and pepper. Stir well and let it simmer uncovered for about 8-10 minutes.
  • Once the orzo is cooked through, return the browned chicken sausage to the pot and stir to incorporate. Cook for another 2 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until it melts and coats the pasta.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt and pepper if needed. Let the dish rest for a couple of minutes before serving.

Notes

Use high-quality sausage for better flavor. Adjust cooking times as needed based on broccoli size. Consider adding a squeeze of lemon juice before serving for brightness.
