  • 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar provides acidity
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce adds sweetness
  • 1 ½ teaspoons lime juice contributes brightness

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Begin by heating the oil over medium heat in a large skillet.
  • Add the minced onion to the skillet and sauté until it becomes translucent.
  • Mix in the minced garlic and crushed red chili pepper flakes.
  • Add the ground chicken or turkey to the skillet and cook until browned.
  • Incorporate the diced mushrooms and water chestnuts into the skillet.
  • Add the grated ginger and stir to blend.
  • Pour in the soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, rice wine vinegar, hoisin sauce, and lime juice.
  • Taste the filling and season with salt and pepper as needed.

Assembly

  • Carefully separate the leaves of the butter lettuce or baby Romaine.
  • Arrange the leaves on a serving platter and spoon the chicken mixture into each leaf.
  • If using garnishes, sprinkle them over the filled lettuce wraps.
