Ingredients
  

For the meatballs

  • 1 lb ground beef Structure for meatballs

For the sauce

  • 2 tbsp olive oil Moisture for frying

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, onion powder, Italian seasoning, and salt and pepper. Mix until just combined and form the mixture into even-sized balls.

Cooking

  • Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the meatballs until browned on all sides.
  • Remove meatballs from skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, add sliced onions and butter. Sauté until caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.
  • Sprinkle onions with sugar, then stir in beef broth, white wine (if using), and Worcestershire sauce, scraping the bottom of the skillet.
  • Add flour to the onion mixture, stirring until well combined. Simmer for a few minutes until slightly thickened.
  • Return meatballs to the skillet, coating them with the onion mixture.
  • Transfer everything to a baking dish, top with shredded cheese, and bake for 15-20 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Remove from oven and let rest for a few minutes, then garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
