Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 6 strips bacon, cut into smaller pieces adds savory flavor and fat
  • 1 medium cabbage, cored & chopped provides texture and moisture
  • 1 medium onion, chopped enhances flavor with sweetness
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional) adds depth and warmth
  • Salt & pepper to taste for seasoning

Instructions

Cooking

  • Start by placing the bacon pieces in a large skillet over medium heat. Allow the bacon to cook until it's browned and crispy, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove the bacon pieces from the skillet and set them aside, leaving the rendered fat in the pan.
  • In the same skillet with the remaining bacon fat, add the chopped onion. Sauté until the onions become translucent and fragrant, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet, seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. Stir well and continue to cook until the cabbage is tender and slightly wilted, about 5-7 minutes.
  • When the cabbage has softened, return the cooked bacon to the skillet. If using smoked paprika, sprinkle it in at this time. Heat everything together for another 2-3 minutes.

Notes

For best results, cook the bacon slowly to achieve a nice crispness without burning. Consider adding a splash of vinegar or lemon juice before serving to brighten flavors.
